Fleeing the 1 degree frosts at Rydal, Mike gave me a lift back onto the track at Hartley.

I’d been told for ages that this is the leg I’d definitely be walking solo because who’d want to ascent Mt Vic (sounds like Everest, eh) but a foolhardy friend Dean took up the challenge.

Like finding a backdoor in that peak we were tipped off by Wayne (our 2015 coo-ee marcher) about the Berghoffer pass … A well disguised track (almost missed) that runs along the ridge. A very scenic and surprisingly gentle ascent brought us to the top. Either that or it was my anti-inflammatory drugs 🙂

Enjoying the journey and a relaxing pace we found service roads along the highway to mix up our semi-trailers facing route to Blackheath. Now well and truely in the Blue Mountains, the scenery has become very dense bush and majestic vistas across Medlow Bath.

That night I was rewarded by welcoming my wife Kay to the track. Recharging with amazing local Thai and avoiding trivia night at our pub, we enjoyed a pleasant night here.
